Modified LCD monitor with extremely low electromagnetic emissions

This monitor was an Acer AL1716. The picture quality is the same of the original monitor, only the backlight has changed. It is a 17 inch, with resolution up to 1280x1024, and VGA input.

The original embedded power supply, the main electronic board, the inverter and the fluorescent tubes have been totally removed. A set of white LEDs, specifically designed for this display, has been installed to provide the backlight. The cables have been rearranged. A special power supply with very low noise has been designed and built to provide the power for both the monitor board and the backlight LEDs. The monitor is connected to the power supply by means of a shielded cable. The controller board, which is the cause of a big part of the radio frequency emissions, is enclosed in an iron box away from the display, and it is connected to the display by a signal cable.

This modified monitor consumes a power of about 15 W, which can be reduced to about 10 W with our special power supply.
